Republic of Chile
Chile fills a narrow - 150 mile wide and 1,800-mile-long - strip between the Andes and the Pacific with one-third of the country covered by the towering Andes. In the north is the driest place on Earth and at the southern tip is Punta Arenas, the southern most city in the world.
Chile has a population of 16,200,000. The official language is Spanish, but 10 others are spoken. The main religions are Roman Catholic 89%, Protestants 11%. Occult practices are quite evident and some people are animists.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Republic of Chile (IELCHI) was started in 1954 by the Lutheran Church in Argentina. It has three congregations and two mission stations with 250 members. The Rev. Dr. Carlos Schumann, President
