Sri Lanka

The sainted Rev. Ranjith Fernando, former President of the Lutheran Church in Sri Lanka, studied the Lutheran Confessions under LCMS missionary, Rev. John Temple, prior to his ordination as a Lutheran pastor. He wanted the true Lutheran doctrine taught and confessed so he founded the LCSL. Due to recent governmental regulations the church has reregistered under the name: Lutheran Church in Lanka (LCL).

This young church body has endured ethnic civil war for over two decades, religious persecution, and the tsunami of 26 Dec. 2004, in which President Fernando and his wife, Darshini, lost their lives. The LCL struggles in difficult circumstances, yet is determined to maintain its confessional Lutheran stature. Please keep the LCL in your prayers.

The Bethel Arudpany Lutheran Girls’ Home has proven to be a wonderful outreach opportunity for the Lutheran Church in Lanka. The Lutheran churches have already been planted through this mode of outreach because people have seen actual Christian love in action at this girls’ home and orphanage. This is great opportunity in the war-trodden Eastern and Northern provinces of Lanka to bring the lost to Christ.

Tsunami damage

Similar tsunami waves destroyed the interior of the
